7August 2008

WoooWheee!!  What a match.  Talk about some great stages and great grub - both were in abundance!  Thanks go to Dutch Diablo for some mean Nilgai chili and all the trimmings.  Congratulations (and thanks) to Verdadero for creating some excellent stages.  I think that we all could say that stage 4 was "dynamite!"  For those that don't know it already, Verdadero built several of the targets we used.

I show September's Match Director to be Gritonera and the Giver of Grub will be Savanna Danna.

Let's give a warm welcome to new members Ace High and Mainspring!!  HOWWWWDEEEEE!!!!

2 Sept 2008

The September match will start at 4:00 p.m.!!  Stage setup is at 2:00 p.m.  Match director Gritonera has requested assistance in setting up the stages and a couple of boom boxes capable of playing CDs.

Lots of info here, so read on....

As many of you know, the CCPRC sent a letter to its members stating that no steel targets and no rifle shooting would be allowed due to pending construction of a housing subdivision downrange of the club property.  Construction could start as early as 1 September.

Members of the executive committee met with the CCPRC in hopes of getting an "exemption" from these rules during our matches - and we have some good news.  The September match will not be affected by the rulings - rifles and steel can be utilized.  Several factors weighed in on this favorable decision for us.  1) We, as a club, have demonstrated a commitment to safety during our matches.  2) We demonstrated that our weapons would pose no actual danger at long downrange distances due to use of low velocity ammo and solid lead bullets only.

The one thing asked of us regarding the match (and readily agreed to) was that we move our targets to the back of the bays.  The setup distances from the shooter to the targets will not be affected - just the stage's farthest targets will be nestled next to berm at the back of the bay.  This also means we will not be able to dilly-dally in the shade at the front of the bays for extended periods of time.
Other items from the meeting:

The October match may be affected by construction to "rotate" the bays so that there is a longer distance between us and "civilization" - will keep you posted on that.

For those who may want to go to the range and practice between matches, a the "no rifles" and "no steel" rule is in effect.  Paper targets for pistol practice are fine, but the CCPRC is sticking to its guns on "no steel for practice."  We can live with that until the issues and construction is fully resolved.

Overall, we think the club fared quite well in getting this "exemption" from the no rifle/steel ruling for our matches.  The CCPRC is working to upgrade the bays/berms so that we can return to "normal" shooting.
